"Democracy and Freedom Island, formerly known as Yassıada or Plati, is a small island close to Istanbul in the Sea of Marmara. It consists of two adjacent deserted islands, one of which has a pointed shape while the other is flat. The flat island measures 185 meters in width, 740 meters in length, covering an area of 18.3 hectares. The terrain of the island is flat, but its shores typically descend steeply into the sea. Yassıada is located 0.9 nautical miles (1.66 km) from Sivriada, 2.67 nautical miles (4.94 km) from Burgazada, and 6.27 nautical miles (11.6 km) from Fenerbahçe Island on the coast of Kadıköy."
