Kınalıada

Island / Adalar, Turkiye, Marmara, İstanbul (Anatolia)

Kınalıada

It is the closest island to Istanbul among the inhabited islands of the island group known as the Prince Islands in the Sea of Marmara.

It is one of the five neighborhoods of Adalar district. The borders of the Kınalıada neighborhood, which is the only headmanship on Kınalıada, the fourth largest member of the archipelago, are the same as the borders of the island.

Kınalıada, the smallest of the four large islands in the Sea of Marmara, can be considered a summer resort today. Although there are local people living on the island in summer and winter, the population of the island reaches around 3000, including those who come in summer. It is said to be the most comfortable island among the Prince Islands to swim in, as it is very easy to swim from almost every side, and for this reason it attracts a large number of people.

During the Byzantine period, most of the island exiles were brought here. The most important of these exiles is Roman Diogenes. Its old name is Proti. It is one of the barest islands, with the fewest trees and settlements occupy almost the entire island. Although it gives the impression of a single-hilled conical island when approaching the pier, the remaining 115 meters of the island's 115-meter Çınar Hill and the western skirts of Manastır Hill have been carved out due to the quarry that has been operated since ancient times. Its name comes from the color of its soil, which is reddish due to the influence of iron and copper mines. Its historical texture is also very poor. There is 1 mosque, 2 churches and 1 monastery on the island. Surp Krikor Lusavoriç, the only Armenian Church on the Islands, is here. There is also the Greek Orthodox Hristos Monastery on the place known as Monastery Hill.

Istanbul City Lines, Mavi Marmara and Turyol companies organize regular flights to Kınalıada. While boats departing from Bostancı reach the island in approximately 30 minutes, ferries departing from Kabataş reach the island in approximately 1 hour. Companies operating flights to Kınalıada generally use two tariffs: summer and winter. The frequency of these flights varies between weekdays and weekends. Relevant flights can be followed using timetables.

Transportation on the island is provided by bicycles and electric vehicles. For a while, domestic transportation was provided by horse-drawn carriages.
