Tavşan Island

"Tavşan Adası" or "Balıkçı Adası" is one of the Prince Islands in the Marmara Sea. Located about 2 km south of Büyükada, it's a small, barren landmass devoid of trees, measuring 90 meters in length. Due to its small size and barrenness, it lacks any settlement. It's named Tavşan Adası due to the abundance of rabbits on the island.

The Greek name for Tavşan Adası is Neandros, which translates to "New Andros." It is believed that settlers from Andros Island in the Aegean Sea migrated to Heybeliada, establishing a colony there. To honor their original island, they named this small island behind Büyükada "Neandros," meaning "New Andros." Today, the island is also referred to as Niandros or even Yandros. Its official name on maps is "Balıkçı Adası."

Tavşan Adası lacks a suitable beach and was once used as a quarry during the Byzantine era. There is a single ruined monastery on the island.
