Akgöl Lake

Akgöl is a fresh water alluvial barrier lake between Karasu and Ferizli districts in Sakarya. It was formed by the effect of alluviums deposited by the Sakarya River, which passes about 1 km from the lake. The distance to Sakarya center via Gölkent District of Ferizli is 38 km. There is also access to Adatepe District via the Old Karasu road. Around the lake are the Gölkent, Kuzca, Bakırlı neighborhoods of Ferizli and Adatepe, Konacık and Kancalar neighborhoods of Karasu. Although the size of the lake is 5.5 km², most of it is covered with reeds and swamps. There are few open areas close to the lake shore. The drainage area of the lake is 47 km², the deepest part is 6 m, and the maximum water level is 4 m. According to research, lake water IV. class and intense eutrophication has been detected. Peat is mined from the shores of the Karasu district of the lake. It has been determined that the organic soil in Akgöl has the same value as the imported peat and there is no difference. From the lake; Crayfish, freshwater perch, catfish, rudd, pike, tench, wood, mirror carp, silver crucian carp can be caught.
