Bahçesaray Subaşı

The old name of Bahçesaray and the name still used among the people is Müküs. Müküs is an Arabic word and is the plural of the word meks. The dictionary meaning is tithes, debts, taxes and the sum of them. It is also used in the sense of gathering place and location. Apart from the classical common history of the Bahçesaray Van Lake basin, its known special history IV. It dates back to the century. Şemsettin Sami wrote in his book Kamus-ul Alam that a branch of the Tigris river emerges from under the Iskender Castle. Müküs Stream, which is a branch of the aforementioned and Tigris River, originates 2 km north of the district. Approximately 3 km above the source of this stream, there are still remains of the castle known as İskender Castle today. It is 110 km away from the city center of Van. It is also possible to go to the district via Hizan. It is surrounded by steep, high mountains and hills with harsh terrain and natural conditions. The district was bordered by Çatak in the east, Hizan in Bitlis in the west, Gevaş in the north, and Pervari in the south of Siirt. The stream called Müküs Bahçesaray, originating from the spring called Serkahni (Çeşme Başı) on the skirts of the Ağirov Mountain in the north of the district, divides the district into two and reaches the border of the Pervari district after passing through a long and narrow valley.
