Herzegovina Lagoon

Herzegovina Lagoon is one of the few lagoon systems on the southern coast of the Sea of Marmara. The surface area of the lagoon, located within the borders of Altınova District of Yalova province, is 152 hectares. Altınova District, where Hersek Lagoon is located, was formed by the alluviums carried by Yalakdere filling the Sea of Marmara. The lagoon is separated from the Marmara Sea by a thin coastline. Today, water inflow to the lagoon occurs through sea water overflowing from the coastline into the lake during stormy weather, precipitation falling on the lake surface, and discharge water from the lands in the south of the lagoon and surface flows.

The average depth of the lake is 50-60 cm. 90 cm at its deepest point. It has been determined that .
