Meriç Delta
Meriç Delta is a wetland system consisting of large reeds, seasonal marshes, fresh and salty lakes and agricultural areas on the Greek-Turkish border. Evros River originating from Rila Mountain in Bulgaria; After including major tributaries such as Tunca, Arda and Ergene, it begins to flow in a wide bed starting from the north of İpsala. This wide bed, starting from the Meriç-Ergene junction, is also where the Lower Meriç Flood Plain begins, and a significant part of it remains within the borders of Greece. The most important lakes and lagoons within the borders of our country are; Küçük and Büyük Gala, Sığırcı and Pamuklu lakes and Dalyan lakes near Enez. The flood plain is a rare area formed as a result of the storage and horizontal displacement of alluviums carried by the Meriç River.
