The Izmir Government Mansion
The Izmir Government Mansion is a building located in Izmir, Turkey and used as the governor's office. The Konak Square in front of the mansion and the Konak district where it is located are named after the building. Built at the beginning of the 19th century and belonging to the Katipzade family, the Voyvoda Mansion, or Katipzade Mansion as it is known, was rented by the Ottoman Empire for a while and used as the governor's office. In 1863, the building was considered to be repaired, but after the local government reform carried out at that time, it was decided to build a new building. The new building, whose project was approved on November 16, 1867, was built on the site of the old mansion and completed in 1872. The building, which was damaged by a fire on July 31, 1970, was demolished in the following years. A project competition was held in 1971 to build a new building. The main building of the mansion was rebuilt in a similar way to the original after 1980. High-rise buildings were built in place of the surrounding buildings. The building was taken into maintenance between 2017-2021.
