26th August 1071 Malazgirt Victory Monument

The victory of Sultan Alparslan, who defeated the "invincible" Byzantine army by using the superior war tactics of the Turks despite the low number of soldiers, is symbolized by a monument in Manzikert, where Anatolia opened its doors to the Turks.

In order to keep the spirit of Manzikert Victory alive, a competition was held in 1970 under the leadership of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism to build a monument in the square where the war was won. The drawing of architect Mustafa Aslaner won the first prize in the competition for the monument planned to be built in the protected area in Mengüç Gazi District. The monument project, consisting of two 52-meter-long columns with images symbolizing Anatolia, Turkish states and the flag with a crescent and star, was completed in 1992 and brought to the district. The "1071 Manzikert Monument", built on a dominant area that can be seen from all over the district, is symbolized as the gateway for Turks to enter Anatolia with its two columns facing each other.
