33 Martyr Monument

33 Martyrs Monument, a monument in the countryside of Bingöl province in Turkey, commemorating 33 soldiers who lost their lives as a result of an attack on unarmed Turkish soldiers by PKK militants on the Elazığ-Bingöl highway on 24 May 1993, after they had set off from Malatya in civilian buses to go to their master units. A monument in the shape of a Turkish flag was built on 30 June 2007 in a place called "Anıttepe", located 13 kilometres away from Bingöl city centre, and a mausoleum with a representative picture of the soldiers was built by hanging a 10 square metre giant Turkish flag brought from Anıtkabir on a 33 m long pole symbolising 33 martyred soldiers, and it was opened on 24 May 2012.
