Alaca Mound
In Alacahöyük, an important cult and art center of the Hittites, 4 civilizations were unearthed in the excavations of Alacahöyük which started in 1935. The excavations, which started in 1935 under the direction of R.O. Arık on behalf of the Turkish Historical Society by the order of Atatürk, were continued by H.Z. Koşay in 1936. Koşay continued the excavations in 1936. Alacahöyük excavation is the first national excavation of Turkey.
