Çekerek Şehitler Monument
While the district of Çekerek was a central village under the name of Hacıköy, it was affiliated to Zile District of Sivas. The district center was transferred from Kadışehir to Hacıköy a year later. However, when Sorgun became a district later on, Hacıköy remained as a village connected to this district. Later, in 1928, Hacıköy became a sub-district of Sorgun.
In the first years of the War of Independence, Aynacıoğulları, who lived in the Özüveren Village of the district, started a rebellion with the bandits they had gathered around them, and raided the districts of Zile and Akdağ. In order to suppress this revolt, the Kuvayi Milliye Forces under the command of Major Ali Galip Bey fought with Aynacıoğulları around the Koyunculu Village of the district, but they were captured because of the cooperation of Osman Yılmaz (Blind Hodja), who was the village imam, with Aynacıoğulları. Aynacıoğulları took Ali Galip Bey and six of his fellow officers to the vicinity of Deveci Mountain in the vicinity of Fakıdağ and martyred them here. This event is also called the "Blind Hodja Incident" in our history. Later, with the initiatives of Ali Galip Bey's brother, who was a deputy, and the people of the parish, the bones of the Martyr officers were brought to Hacıköy, which was the center of the subdivision at that time and is now the district center, and a martyrdom monument was erected.
