First Target Monument

This war, which took its place in the pages of history with the name of the Battle of the Commander-in-Chief, which took place between 26-30 August 1922, which was the basis for the establishment of the Republic of Turkey and which changed the course of history by leaving deep repercussions all over the world, started in Afyonkarahisar Kocatepe, on 30 August Zafertepeçalköy-Dumlupınar. A great victory was achieved with the extraordinary heroism and courage shown by the Turkish Armies on the line. In this war, thousands of patriots irrigated these lands with their blood, sacrificed their lives by fighting for existence against the imperialist powers, and became a martyr for this cause.

Commander-in-Chief, Mustafa Kemal Pasha, on September 1, 1922, in Dumlupınar, told the Armies of the Grand National Assembly, "Your first target is the Mediterranean. Forward!..” gave the historical order. Kütahya was liberated from the enemy occupation on 30 August 1922 at 18:00. This Monument; In the Battle of the Commander-in-Chief, Mustafa Kemal Pasha said, "Armies, your first target is the Mediterranean. Forward!.” is the location of the headquarters where he gave the order. Its construction started in 1964, partially finished in 1968, and opened to visitors on August 26, 1972. The monument consists of a Bronze Atatürk Statue, a reinforced concrete monumental structure in the background, a bronze relief that portrays the cavalry units. The height of the Atatürk Statue is 4 meters and the concrete background height is 12 meters. This backdrop shows the lightning flashes and symbolizes the Battle of the Commander-in-Chief.
