Kargı Köyü Sığla Ormanı Tabiatı Koruma Alanı

It is within the borders of Bucak district of Burdur province, Mediterranean region. 88.5 Ha². The most elite and isolated distribution of the sweetgum tree, which is a rare and endangered species, is seen in this area. It is intended to be used for scientific and educational purposes for the benefit of future generations. Sweetgum, red pine, shallow-haired oak, alder, sycamore constitute the plant species. There are mountain goat, squirrel, various reptile and amphibian species and many crabs in the area. The sweetgum tree, popularly known as the diary tree or amber tree, is a protected endemic species that grows especially in Muğla Center, Marmaris, Köyceğiz and Fethiye district borders, Denizli Acıpayam district, Burdur province Bucak district and Rhodes Island. Apart from these regions, there is no information that it grows in any other part of the world. According to archaeological evidence, the Sweetgum Tree has been used for many different purposes from the Carians to the present day. In addition to being used as wood, the oil obtained from its trunk is used in many different fields.  Although there are no balsam channels in the woody trunk and bark of the tree, balsam channels are formed around the wound after natural or intentional injury. The oil produced from the Sweetgum Tree is used therapeutically for skin, stomach and respiratory diseases. In addition, Sweetgum Oil is used in cosmetics, pharmacy and food sectors due to its unique odor.
