Kunduracı Sycamore Nature Monument

When our cultural history is examined, we witness that we have many beliefs about trees and that we attach a special importance to trees. The plane tree has a special value for Turkish society and the Ottoman Empire. Osman Bey dreamt that a moon entered his bosom and at that moment a plane tree grew from his navel and its shadow covered the world. Under the shadow of the plane tree, there are mountains and at the bottom of the mountains there are waters. Some of the people in his dream drink from these waters, while others water their gardens and others run their fountains. The history of the Ottoman Empire is hidden in this dream. The Turkish nation has distributed the water of justice and tolerance to people for centuries with this great plane tree that emerged from Osman Bey's bosom in his dream. Sycamore is a magnificent and long-lasting tree. While connecting the past to the future, it teaches people patience and awe. It gives the pleasure of living together and being useful to each other. It has embraced the future with its branches, with the strength it draws from the past by pressing deep into the past with its roots.

STANDING FOR 10 CENTURIES

One of the best examples of this is the Kunduracı Çınarı in Kaynaklar Village of Buca District of Izmir. Standing for 10 centuries as if proving the majesty of nature to mankind, the Kunduracı Sycamore takes you from the past to the future. It shows you how short human life is and how vast time is. At its base, you forget everything and get caught up in dreams of serenity. While proudly carrying the "Natural Monument" sign hung on its body, it greets its visitors with its witness to history.

According to the rumor, it is said that its name comes from the shoemaker shop that has been operating for years in its empty body. According to another rumor, it was named Kunduracı Çınarı because it was likened to a shoemaker's anvil.
