Sarıkum
Sarıkum Nature Reserve is located within the borders of Sarıkum village on the Sinop-Ayancık State highway, 21 km from Sinop province, and is 489 hectares in size. Of this area, 101 hectares is lake surface and 100 hectares is wetland. Sarıkum Nature Reserve was declared as a Nature Reserve on 30.07.1987 due to the combination of many ecosystems such as sea, coastal, dune, lake, wetland and forest ecosystems and the rich biodiversity and resource values in these ecosystems. Sarıkum Lake, which gives its name to the Nature Reserve, is an old gulf and a lagoon lake formed as a result of the closure of the streams flowing into this gulf by coastal dunes moved by black sea winds for many years. The lake is still connected to the sea through a 25-30 m strait. However, this connection closes from time to time during the year depending on the movement of the coastal dunes.Sarıkum surroundings constitute a contrast within the green appearance of the Sinop peninsula, which is generally rich in vegetation. This place has gained the appearance of an area where the sand topography prepared by the edaphic conditions has developed.
