Ala Mosque
Ala Mosque is one of the most important monuments of Osmaniye, where traces of Roman, Byzantine and Turkish Islamic Civilizations are seen. As a result of the excavations carried out by the Osmaniye Museum Directorate, it was understood that Ala Mosque was built as a church with its kyripta (stone room under a building) and that the entire surrounding area was covered with mosaics, while the mosaic areas in the north and west were porticoed, while the mosaic areas in the east and south were open. The Şar Kırık Kilise in Tufanbeyli District of Adana Province is an example of a similar church with an external entrance and a cyropolis. Bayliss, who has prepared many publications on the building, claims that the building was first built as a monastery and that it may have been a cross center for Christians. Finds from the excavation also support Bayliss' opinion. Ala Mosque was built as a church during the Byzantine period and used as a mosque since the Dulkadiroğulları period.
