It is one of the largest masonry wooden mosques in Turkey with an area of 392m2 and is also the oldest wooden mosque in Turkey. There are various assumptions about the name of the mosque. According to one of these views, the name of the mosque comes from the cemetery in which it is located. Cemeteries used to be called “Göç ehli” meaning the place where those who migrated from the world were found. According to another opinion, the mosque is called göğceli because the trees used in the construction of the mosque are long and heavy.
