Gülbaharhatun Square Mosque

The mosque built by Sultan Bayezid II in honor of his mother, Gülbahar Hatun, is recorded as “Hatuniye Mosque.” It was built in 1485 on a large area in Meydan Mahallesi, from which it takes its name. It is one of the most beautiful Ottoman works of art in Tokat. Built of cut stone, it has a single minaret above the main hall and a five-domed rear prayer hall supported by six columns. The Meydan Mosque's marble portal, decorated with Seljuk-style stalactites, and its wooden door wings, crafted using the künde kari technique, are masterpieces of art.
