Suleyman Khan Mosque
Its minaret is a symbolic structure showing the Ottoman dominance over the region. The mosque has a square plan and is covered with a flat earth roof. According to Evliya Çelebi, it was repaired by Suleiman the Magnificent in 1534. The harim was excavated by Prof. Dr. Taner Tarhan in the 1987-88 season. A section of the qibla wall has survived to the present day. The minaret on the eastern side of the mosque has a square prismatic base and a cylindrical body. The base and body are made of cut stone. The balcony railings and upper section of the minaret have collapsed. It is one of the important ruins affecting the silhouette of Van Castle.
