Barred Silos
Located in Çubuklu, between Paşabahçe and Kanlıca, Çubuklu Silos is an industrial heritage site whose story dates back to 1930.
The area where the silos are located was opened to industrial buildings in the late 19th century to meet the city's increasing energy demand. Since the 1930s, it has been used as a storage area by private oil companies; for this purpose, silo structures of different sizes were placed in the area in different periods.
Silos, which are defined as industrial storage structures worldwide, became widespread from the 19th century onwards and functioned as warehouses for different products such as food, seeds, feed, minerals and chemicals. Silos, which lost these functions over time, continue to preserve their value today as a heritage element with their architecture reflecting the traces of their own periods and their testimonies that integrate with the memory of the city.
