Beylerbeyi Palace
Beylerbeyi Palace was a summer Ottoman palace in the Üsküdar district of Istanbul. Beylerbeyi Palace, now used as a museum, is part of a complex consisting of various buildings and other elements connected to it. It takes its name from the Beylerbeyi neighborhood where it is located. It was built in 1863-1865 on the orders of the Ottoman Sultan Abdülaziz, with Sarkis Balyan as the architect. Before the current palace was built, there was a wooden palace in this area, built in 1832, and some of its buildings. This building, which was built by the Ottoman Sultan Mahmud II as a summer palace, was destroyed by fire in 1851, when Sultan Abdülmecid was staying there. It was not used from that date on the grounds that it was “inauspicious” and was demolished in 1861 on the instructions of Abdülaziz, who succeeded to the throne.
