Bitlis Ethnography Museum
The building, which was used as the Governor's Mansion in the past, was allocated to our Ministry in 2005 and opened to visitors as the Bitlis Ethnography Museum. It serves as a unit affiliated to the Ahlat Museum Directorate. The museum building, which is registered as an immovable cultural property to be protected, was built with Ahlat stone in accordance with the local texture of the region and has a natural appearance. Historical building; It consists of half basement, ground + 1 floor. There are administrative units on the ground floor and a showroom on the upper floor. The works in the museum are exhibited in two different areas. Ethnographic works are exhibited on the upper floor of the museum and stone works are exhibited in the garden. In the hall where ethnographic works are exhibited, there are textile products, handicrafts, ornaments, copper works, coins and works reflecting the ethnographic values of the region. In the garden display, there are decorated stones, chol, hand mills and tombstones belonging to the architectural texture of the region. The ornaments on these basalt architectural pieces provide information about the culture and architectural structure of the period. These works are; It reflects the lifestyle of the local people and the social, religious, technical, scientific and architectural features of the period.
