Diyarbakir Archeology Museum

The first museum in Diyarbakır was opened in 1934 in the Zinciriye (Senceriye) Madrasa near the Ulu Mosque. In 1985, it was moved to its current building on Elazig Street, and in 1993 it was put into service for the public.

Our museum; the excavations carried out in the region and the acquisition and confiscation; It has a rich collection of artifacts from the Old Bronze, Urartian, Assyrian, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk, Akkoyunlu and Ottoman periods, as well as Amida-printed Artukid period coins and ethnographic artifacts from the Prehistoric Age. Again, in addition to the Çayönü and Hallançemi excavations, the excavations carried out under the presidency of our museum within the scope of the Ilısu Dam rescue excavations since 2000 have yielded findings containing very important information about the history of humanity, and this puts our museum in a privileged position.
