Gazi Alemdar Ship Museum
During the War of Independence, the small warship named Alemdar, which was kidnapped by the patriots, was tried to be captured by the French. The patriots, who did not want this to happen, brought the ship to the Black Sea port of Ereğli and grounded it. Angered at this situation, the French wanted to occupy the city but were unsuccessful. Even the French commanders and soldiers, who were taken prisoner by the people, had to sign an agreement with the Republic of Turkey. This agreement, which is an indication of the acceptance of the National Establishment Government, has a special importance as it is the first international agreement of Turkey during the War of Independence. This success, which was won as a result of the struggle of the people of Karadeniz Ereğli, also forms the basis of the victories achieved by the Republic of Turkey. Since the first and only naval battle of the War of Independence took place in this place, we can say that it has many different traces in history. Gazi Alemdar Ship Museum, which was opened as a museum in 2008, should definitely be on your list of places to visit in Zonguldak! Gazi Alemdar Ship, which will give you a different atmosphere, is one of the magnificent places that sheds light on history.
