Hatay Archeology Museum
It is the largest mosaic museum in the world. The new museum, the construction of which started in 2011; It was built as the world's largest mosaic exhibition area with a total of 32,754 square meters of indoor space, 10,700 square meters of exhibition space and 3500 square meters of mosaic exhibited. The new museum building was opened by the then Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu with an official ceremony held on 28 December 2014.
In the news on May 4, 2015, it was claimed that there were major mistakes and losses in the restorations made during transportation. Thereupon, in the statement made by the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, it was announced that the ongoing restorations in the museum were completely canceled and a review commission was established. In a statement to the press two days later, the Ministry denied the allegations and stated that there was no damage to the artifacts. One day after this statement, the works that were the subject of the claim were shown to the press and it was repeated that the claims were distortions and did not bear any truth.
After the 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquakes, some historical artifacts in the museum were brought to Kırşehir in 150 sealed boxes against the possible earthquake risk, and were taken under protection. It was decided to examine the historical artifacts, which were put in the warehouse of the Kırşehir Museum, by experts from Ankara and Hatay.
