İçkale Diyarbakır Archaeology Museum

The first museum in Diyarbakir, which is one of the cities that best preserves its historical texture, was opened in Zinciriye (Senceriye) Madrasa near the Ulu Mosque in 1934, and in 1985 it was moved to its building on Elazig Street, which was exhibited in accordance with the modern museology understanding. In 2004, the Citadel was functioned as a complex area of the Diyarbakir Museum, within the scope of the Diyarbakir Walls and Citadel Project, in order to preserve the Citadel and bring it to life, and to transfer this area, which constitutes the most important point of the historical and cultural texture of Diyarbakir, to the future.

The İçkale, which was separated from the city by being surrounded by walls and used as the administrative center of the city, was built in the 3rd millennium BC during the Hurrian Period. Located in İçkale and BC. The Amida mound, which has been inhabited since the 6th millennium BC, is the first point where the city was founded.

Today, İçkale, Amida Mound and Artuklu Palace, St. George Church, Hz. Süleyman Mosque and 27 Companions Tombs, Artuklu Arch, Aslanlı Fountain, Atatürk Museum, Gendarmerie Building, Old Prison Building, Corps Building, Foundations Directorate Building, Revenue Office Building, Courthouse A and Courthouse B buildings are a museum complex formed by different functions.
