Istanbul Museum of Modern Art
Established in 2004 as Turkey's first modern and contemporary art museum in order to share Turkey's artistic creativity and cultural identity with the national and international art scene, Istanbul Modern hosts interdisciplinary events.
With an international orientation, Istanbul Modern collects, preserves, exhibits and documents modern and contemporary works of art, productions in the fields of photography, design, architecture, new media and cinema. It mediates the sharing of Turkey's cultural identity with the international art scene. It supports the production of artists and their ability to establish international collaborations. With its mission to make art easily accessible to the masses, Istanbul Modern offers educational programs to art audiences of all ages for this purpose.
The museum's collections, exhibitions and educational programs aim to make visitors from all walks like art and to enable visitors to actively participate in the arts. Established on an area of 8,000 square meters in Karaköy, on the shore of the Bosphorus, and continuing its activities in this building for 14 years, Istanbul Modern welcomes its visitors in its temporary space in Beyoğlu for 3 years as of May 2018, until its new building is completed. It continues its cultural activities with its temporary and permanent exhibition halls, photo gallery, educational and social programs, library, cinema and store.
