Kasr-ı Hümayun Palace Museum

Abdülaziz Hunting Lodge, or Kasr-ı Hümayun Palace Museum, is a baroque and imperial style building used as a museum in the city of Izmit. It is next to the Izmit Clock Tower. The building, which took its final shape during the reign of Abdülaziz, is known as the only small palace built in the Ottoman Empire outside of Istanbul. Its architect is Garabet Amira Balyan. The building hosted two important meetings held by Atatürk during the years of the National Struggle. The hunting lodge, which has been serving as a museum since 1967, was damaged in the 17 August 1999 earthquake. It was reopened as a "Palace-Museum" on January 16, 2007.
