Mersin Cultural Center building (Old People's House), one of the first civil architectural works of the Republican Period, whose foundation was laid by Governor Tevfik Sırrı Gür in February 1944, was completed in 2 years and 8 months and was put into service on Tuesday, October 29, 1946, as part of the 23rd anniversary of the establishment of our Republic. The center, where cultural, artistic and sports activities were held between 1946-1951, was transferred to the Ministry of National Education on 04.01.1977 after the closure of the community centers in 1951. The building, whose restoration was completed in 1991, was put into service as Mersin Cultural Center. In the Mersin Cultural Center building, there is the Mersin Opera and Ballet Directorate, which was established in 1990, and the Fine Arts Gallery unit, which has just started to serve.
