Milet Museum
Miletus Museum is located in the ancient city of Miletus in Didim District of Aydın Province. Opened in 1973, the museum was closed in 2000 with the approval of the Ministry, and the exhibited artifacts were reopened for display in the new museum building, which was completed between 2007-2011.
The exhibition areas of the museum consist of two parts: garden and indoor exhibition. In the garden exhibition, lion statues, inscriptions, tomb steles, sarcophagi, architectural artifacts and column capitals, which are the symbols of Miletus, are exhibited. The indoor exhibition area in the administrative building of the museum is 600 square meters. In this area, finds from the Ancient City of Miletus, the Ancient City of Priene and the Temple of Apollo in Didim are exhibited.
There are finds from the Ancient City of Miletus; animated Minoan Period (20-15 century BC) kitchen, Minoan Period finds, Zeytintepe Archaic Aphrodite Sanctuary finds, Gacartepe Tomb finds. The sacred road from the Ancient City of Miletus to the Temple of Didim Apollo and the Temple of Apollo votive items are located in the exhibition hall. Finds from the ancient city of Priene, known as the Pompeii of Anatolia, especially rich houses are in the Priene section.
Coins from various periods, ornaments, glass fragrance bottles, bronze objects and figurines, terracotta objects and figurines, finds from the İlyas Bey Mosque dating back to the Menteşeoğulları Principality are among the artifacts exhibited in the interior showcases. In addition, grave stelae from the Archaic Period and an unfinished sculpture group are in the exhibition space.
