Muş Atatürk City Museum
With the transformation of the Atatürk Primary School building, the construction of which was started in 1937 and completed in 1938, into a museum, Muş Museum was put into service in 2021. In the museum; Artifacts from the Bronze Age, Iron Age, Roman, Hellenistic, Seljuk and Ottoman periods, which came through excavation, purchase, confiscation and donation, are exhibited.
In the museum, there are archaeological exhibition halls, ethnographic exhibition hall, Sultan Alparslan and Manzikert War Hall and Children's Education area.
In the Archaeological Halls; Starting from the Chalcolithic Age, works belonging to the Early Bronze Age, Middle Bronze Age, Late Bronze / Early Iron Age, Middle Iron Age (Urartian), Hellenistic, Roman, Eastern Roman, Seljuk and Ottoman periods are exhibited.
In the Ethnographic Hall, Necklaces, Belts, Belt Buckles, Bracelets, Crowns, Healing Bowls, Vases, Candlesticks, Samovars, Mouthpieces, Coffee Grinders, Swords, Wedges, Gunpowder Holders and Pistols from the Ottoman Period are exhibited.
In the Hall of Sultan Alparslan-Malazgirt War, there are information boards about Sultan Alparslan, visuals describing the Battle of Manzikert and information boards. In a short time, artifacts unearthed as a result of the survey and sounding works carried out within the scope of the Identification, Historical and Archaeological Survey of the Manzikert Battlefield Project will also be exhibited.
“Terrace Sculptures, Votive Plates, Gravestones and Stone Foundation” exhibited in the Archeology Hall of our museum offers visitors the opportunity to go on a historical journey about the culture, art, lifestyle and belief system of the period they belonged to. These “unique” works, which arouse curiosity and excitement in the visitors, emphasize the unique position of Muş in the Anatolian historical scene and its differentiating aspects from neighboring provinces.
