Necmi İğe House Ethnography Museum
This 18th century mansion, next to Mimar Sinan Street, Sarı Mosque, is the oldest surviving example of civil architecture in Edirne. The mansion was used by Edirne Treasurer Emin Bey and his family. After being empty for a while, Necmi İğe and his family moved to the mansion in 1922. Necmi İğe's family lived in the mansion until the 1970s, then the mansion remained empty. Over the years, the mansion has been largely destroyed. The mansion, which was restored by the Thrace Development Agency affiliated to the Ministry of Industry and Technology, was organized as Necmi İğe Evi Ethnography Museum under the auspices of our Governorate and opened to visitors on July 4, 2021. In the museum, the wedding culture, handicrafts, customs and traditions of our region are explained. Customs such as asking for a girl, dowry room, henna night, groom's haircut, imam marriage, casting of lead, wedding dinner, Turkish bath and bridal shower have been revived. Local clothes belonging to Rumelia and Balkans are exhibited.
