Niğde Museum

Niğde Archeology Museum is located in the center of Niğde, between Dış Cami Street and Teachers Street. It includes objects found in the surrounding areas, especially the Köşk Höyük in Kemerhisar town and the old Roman city of Tyana. The museum contains unique examples such as the Niğde Stele and mummy. From the Second World War until 1950, a part of the Istanbul Archeology Museum collection was kept in Akmedrese. The building continued to be used as a museum after that. Since this space was insufficient for the collection, work began on a new museum building in 1971. Akmedrese was closed in 1977 and the new museum was opened to visitors on 20 November 1982. Shortly after, the collection was too much for this building, and it was rebuilt and renewed. The reopening of the current museum took place in 2001. The museum operates in the excavations of Köşk Höyük, Porsuk Hüyük, Göllü Dağ, Andaval, Eskigümüş and Kınık Höyük.
