Sakip Sabanci Mardin City Museum

The building, which houses the Sakıp Sabancı Mardin City Museum and Dilek Sabancı Art Gallery, was built during the Second World War. It was built as the Cavalry Barracks in 1889 by the Governor of Diyarbakır, Hacı Hasan Pasha, during the reign of Abdülhamid (1876-1909) and was used in this way for many years. The architect of the building is Sarkis Elyas Lole of Armenian origin. It is understood that the lower floor of the two-storey building, entered from the south door, was the barn part of the barracks. The barracks were later used as the Military Service Branch of the Gendarmerie Command, the Gendarmerie Station and between 1991-2003 as a tax office.
