Samsun Gazi Museum
The historical building, located on Mecidiye Street in Kale Mahallesi, was opened to visitors as the Gazi Museum in 1940 with the initiative of Samsun Municipality. The building, which was transferred to the Ministry of Culture in 1995, was restored and opened as a museum on 08.11.1998. After the large-scale restoration, it was reopened on 22.05.2006 with the renewed display order in accordance with the contemporary museum understanding. With the belongings of the Great Leader Atatürk brought from the Atatürk Museum, the museum has a rich collection of works. When Atatürk went to Samsun on May 19, 1919, he stayed in this building, known as the Mıntıka (Mantıka) Palas. The building was presented to the Great Leader Atatürk by the people of Samsun on his second visit on 20-24 September 1924. Later, on September 16, 1928 and November 22, 1930, when Atatürk came to Samsun again, he stayed in this building. 191 works are exhibited on the ground floor and upper floor of the building. In addition, wax statues of 18 comrades-in-arms who went to Samsun with Atatürk on 19 May 1919 were also presented in the upstairs hall. With the decision of the Supreme Council dated 08.03.1985 and numbered 798, it was registered as an immovable cultural property to be protected.
