Goreme Historical National Park

Göreme Historical National Park was a national park located within the borders of Nevşehir province in the Central Anatolia region. In 1985, it was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. On October 30, 1986, it was declared a national park by the decision of the Council of Ministers, and on October 22, 2019, it was removed from the national park status. The area consists of plateaus, plains, small mountain plants, high hills, alluvium-filled stream and river valleys, drainage basins and high plains separated from each other in eroded steep-sided valleys. The large volcanic cones of Mount Erciyes and Mount Hasan, a part of the Kızılırmak valley from the north, and eroded tuff deposits, some of which are covered with basalt, dominate the landscape. Due to the characteristics of the region, the inhabitants have managed to stay away from the effects of wars and the authority of the central administration. The 'fairy chimneys', which form an interesting landscape structure formed from volcanic tuff, are also one of the places to be seen in terms of Byzantine church architecture and religious art history.

In addition, the settlements of Ürgüp, Avcılar, Uçhisar, Çavuşin and Yeni Zelve are of interest to visitors as they reflect the agricultural and village (rural) life in accordance with the past culture of Göreme region.

Tracking (walking) lines have been determined within the Park in order to visit both natural and cultural values with a different approach.

Visitors can stay in many hotels and pensions within the Park and in nearby settlements.
