Hünkar Meadow
This area is called Hünkâr Çayırı because Fatih Sultan Mehmet took a break with his army during his campaign on Italy on Friday, April 27, 1481. On May 3, 1481, a fountain with an inscription was built in memory of Mehmet the Conqueror who died. Hünkâr Fountain was built by Grand Vizier İbrahim Pasha in 1659 during the reign of Mehmet IV and survived until today with some repairs.
A monument of Fatih Sultan Mehmet was erected in front of the fountain. The fountain, also known as Fatih Sebili among the people, is the place where Mehmet the Conqueror established his bus station. In 1995, Hünkar Meadow was reorganized as a park, recreation and festival area and traditional wrestling festivals are held every year on the occasion of the conquest of Istanbul.
