Kazdagi National Park
Balikesir is a nature-themed national park located in Edremit. It takes its name from Kazdağı, which forms the border of the Marmara and Aegean regions. The structure of the mountain extending in the east-west direction on the Biga Peninsula, in addition to being the only high mountain in the close environment and a transitional climate, is fragmented by the canyons opened by the rivers and is the healthiest. The well-known mountain Şahinderesi Canyon has created conditions that allow a mixture of sea and mountain climates. All these special conditions have made the region rich in endemic species. Kazdağı Fir is one of these endemic species. Apart from this, 77 species specific to Turkey were identified in the mountain. 29 of these species live only on this mountain, like the Kazdağı Fir.
Pınarbaşı and Hasanboğuldu picnic areas, located within the borders of the national park, are among the main sightseeing spots. Moreover; Mehmetalan Village is within the borders of the national park. The cultural feature of the national park is the legend of Sarıkız and the tomb of this person is located on a hill within the borders of the national park.
