Harşit Valley

Harşit (Doğankent) Stream originates from the mountains on the eastern border of Gümüşhane province. It passes through Gümüşhane City Center, Torul, Kürtün, and Doğankent and flows into the Black Sea 1.5 km east of Tirebolu.

It originates from the Vavuk plateau of Gümüşhane and its length is 160 km. The flow rate in the lower part is 28 m³/sec, and in peak times it has a flow rate of 232 m³/sec. The majority of the Eastern Black Sea rivers originate from the peaks of the east-west oriented mountains on the coast and reach the sea through a sloping bed. Unlike the Melet River and the Harşit Stream, they receive their sources from behind the Black Sea Mountains. It grows with branches from Gümüşhane and Kalkanlı Mountains. It occasionally forms deep and narrow valleys in its middle area (between Doğankent and Torul). It reaches the sea 40 km east of Giresun center and 1.5 km east of Tirebolu centre.
