Hidiv Pavilion Grove

Covering an area of 17.2 hectares, Çubuklu Grove (Hidiv İsmail Paşa Grove) is located in Beykoz, Istanbul. Located on the Çubuklu ridges, the grove is also known as Hidiv Grove. It is said to be a residential area dating back to the Byzantine period. There are remains of waterways and cisterns from the Byzantine period in the grove. Even according to the information in Byzantine sources, this place; It was a monastery founded by St. Alexandir and named Akimitis, where monks lived. The information that the monks kept watch day and night in this monastery is also included in the source. St. Alexandir, who died at that time, was also buried here. During the Ottoman period, Ismet Pasha, the Khedive of Egypt, bought two mansions here. Then his son Abbas Hilmi Pasha built a mansion called Hidiv Pavilion on the upper part of this inheritance. Later on, through his proxy Şevket Muhtar, he sold this grove and mansion to Istanbul Municipality. The greenery of Çubuklu Grove, which has come from Byzantine to Ottoman and up to the present day, still winks from the most beautiful part of the city.
