Poyrazlar Lake

Poyrazlar Lake is an alluvial barrier lake located on the banks of the Sakarya River, 7-8 km northeast of Sakarya city center. Another name for the lake, which takes its name from the Poyrazlar village on the lake shore, is Teke lake. The area of the lake is 67 hectares and the length of its shores is 4400 m. It is a first degree natural protected area.

The lake discharges its excess water to the Sakarya River, 350 m away. The depth of the lake is around 3-8 meters, and the southern parts are shallow and covered with reeds. The area around the lake is forest. There is a small floodplain in the southern parts of the lake, this area is important for the feeding and breeding of water birds.

The surroundings of the lake have been designed by the Regional Directorate of Forestry as a recreation area for daily visitors and are operated by the private sector. 154 bird species were detected in the lake, including 64 local species that stay throughout the year, 36 species that come in winter, 47 species that come in summer and 6 species that migrate. Due to the decrease in the number of sea bass and cranes caught in the lake, the Fisheries Cooperative ended its activities in 1992. From Poyrazlar Lake; Tench, freshwater perch, pike, rudd, silver crucian carp, red eye, bream and crayfish are caught. During the hunting season, between 20 and 85 kg of fish are caught per day.
