Bayburt Stone is used in the construction of houses, walls, bridges and tombs, exterior cladding of mosques and houses, decorative products and various souvenirs due to its low hardness and fine-grained nature. The main sites in the region are the Toptepe, Sırataşlar, Gevenli, Konakdağ and Gümüşdamla quarries.
Bayburt Stone; yellow-white colored, sometimes green spotted on a white background, sometimes observed in a mixture of yellow and green wavy colors, the material used as building stone is tuffite, its hardness is low (2-3 according to the Mohs-scale) and it is easily chipped due to its fine grain, soft, It is a natural stone used especially as a facing stone. The yellow and white ones of Bayburt Stone are used as facing stones in buildings. Those with a thickness of 10 cm, a length of 30-40 cm and a width of 20 cm are used as building blocks. Since it has a high water absorption feature, it is not preferred in environments with sudden temperature changes, it causes white blooming and spalling. After the Bayburt Stone is removed, the fine embroidery that will be done without seeing the sun adds a different beauty to the stone. Because the main usage area of the product is indoor decorative environments where fine embroidery is done.
