Zaimoğlu Rize Cloths

Traditional Rize Cloth (Feretiko) is mentioned in some historical sources that it was brought to Rize by the Scythians who dominated the region in BC.

The most common handicraft in Rize was weaving. These cloths, woven from hemp yarn, were used to make underwear (basin kilimali athlete). Cloths woven with hemp yarn dries sweat quickly and were lint-free, so they had a lot of buyers. The fact that the market was large also expanded the cannabis production. The woven Rize cloths would find buyers in many countries. However, with the use of cotton yarn in weaving and the fact that hemp production gradually gave way to tea production in the Republican period, the qualities of the cloths changed and weaving based on hemp production gradually decreased in the province.

In weavings known as "Rize Cloth" (feretiko cloth), mostly hemp yarn and some cotton yarn were used. Rize cloth clothes, loincloths and napkins were woven from hemp yarn, and coarse fabrics called "shawl" were woven with wool yarn obtained from mountain villages that make a living from animal husbandry. Local motifs are used while creating patterns.

As Zaimoğlu Rize Cloths, it continues to maintain this tradition after 1987. We are waiting for everyone in our store for Rize cloth dress (Shawl, Peshtamal, Indirect, Temelun Kilimali athlete, etc.) and Rize souvenir (Nayla-serender, Copper teapot, chair, etc.).
