Aşef is the work of removing the soil of vegetable seedlings, removing the weeds and dried leaves around the seedlings. The person who does the work of Asef is called Asefci. In Hevsel Gardens, women do the chef's work. The story of why the bazaar in Suriçi is called Aşefçiler Çarşısı is as follows: Women working as chefs in Hevsel Gardens bring the herbs they collect to this bazaar towards evening; the quality ones were given to the vegetable growers contracted by the garden owner. The poor quality, that is, the rotten and lame ones, were left to the chef women. They also used to get their alimony by selling the name on the pavement of the bazaar leading to the Asefçiler Bazaar. These days, more than vegetables and fruits, drapery, dowry, tailor, butcher and so on. A bazaar with businesses, it is impossible to walk on the narrow streets of the bazaar on certain days. Nowadays, it is possible to come across all kinds of shops in this bazaar, apart from the chefs.
