Çark Street
Çark Caddesi is a historical street located on the borders of Adapazarı and Serdivan districts. It starts between the intersection of Uzun Çarşı and Bankalar Street and Umbrella Park, and ends at the junction of Sapak Mosque and Serdivan Town Hall. Adapazarı stretches from the center to the west, its continuation to the east is Ankara Street.
Çark Street was heavily damaged in the 1943 and 1967 earthquakes. In the 40s, with the establishment of division, governor's mansion, prison and high schools on the street, the construction increased. After the 60s, high-rise buildings started to be built, and the 67 earthquake damaged this street the most. Cadde 99 was heavily damaged in the earthquake, and many buildings were destroyed. In Ottoman times, a "wheel" system (Ferris wheel) was installed on the stream passing through the city to supply water to the city. With the wheel system built in 1734, the water was transported to Adapazarı and Orta Mosque. The name of the stream was Çark Creek, and the name of the street passing over it was Çark Caddesi.
The beginning part of the street is closed to traffic. During the Aziz Duran mayorship, the 550-meter section was closed to traffic, there were intense debates and objections, and it became the city's shopping and eating and drinking center.
There are shops, cafes, patisseries and banks on both sides of Çark Street. Since it is Sakarya's most popular street, there is a high density of people most of the day. The crowd increases even more on holidays and evenings. Due to the concentration of university students in Serdivan district and the cafes and newly opened shopping malls around Mavi Stop, it has lost some of its popularity. It is likened to Istiklal Street with its renewed light system and popularity, being closed to traffic. Known places on the street are: The parking area in front of the Orhan Mosque, Hilmi Kayin Business Center, Şerefiye Mosque, Historical Cevat Bey Mansion (coffee world), Nuri Bayar Secondary School, Atatürk High School, Governor Mustafa Büyük Kız IHL, Officer's House, Millet built on the site of the old Sakarya Stadium. garden, Çark Recreation Area, Aziz Duran Park (formerly Kentpark), a fuel station at the end of Çark Creek and Sapak Mosque across it. Çark Creek also forms the Adapazarı-Serdivan border.
