Kırkkaşık Bedesten

The Bedesten was built by Ramazanoğlu III in 1579. It was built by Ibrahim (duty period 1569-1589). Although Ramazanoğlu Principality was attached to the Ottoman Empire during the reign of Selim I, it continued its existence as a semi-subordinate throughout the 16th century. İbrahim Bey had the covered bazaar built for his neighbor Tarsus Ulu Mosque to generate income. The covered bazaar, which was restored on various dates, was opened to use after the 1961 restoration. Bedesten living area is 600 square meters. It has 18 shops. Tourist goods and food are still sold in these shops. The building has a rectangular plan on the east-west axis and has 5 domes. The exterior of the building is decorated with lotus figures. Because these figures are likened to spoons among the people, the bedesten is called "kırkkaşık".
