Sultaniye Hot Springs

The history of Sultaniye Hot Springs, located at the foot of Mount Ölemez in the southwestern part of Köyceğiz Lake, dates back thousands of years.

It is known to have been used by the Kaunosians around 100 BC. During the Byzantine period, it was expanded and accommodation facilities were built.

Today, the facilities built during the Byzantine period are submerged under the waters of Lake Köyceğiz. During the Roman period, it was converted into a comprehensive hospital. According to sources, the words “Death cannot enter here in the name of the gods” were written at the entrance to the hospital. Mount Ölemez also takes its name from this.

Sultaniye Hot Springs are known to provide direct healing for many ailments, such as rheumatism, kidney and urinary tract disorders, metabolic disorders, mental fatigue, skin diseases, and gynecological diseases. The water of the Sultaniye Hot Springs contains calcium chloride, calcium sulfate, calcium sulfide, bromide, radon, and radioactive substances. With a water temperature of 39 degrees, the Sultaniye Hot Springs are Turkey's hot springs with the highest radioactivity (98.3).
