Caddebostan Bet El Synagogue

Since the 1950s, the Jewish population residing in the Haydarpaşa - Yeldeğirmeni area preferred to settle in other neighborhoods along the coast, and countless families from the European side preferred to move to the Caddebostan - Suadiye neighborhood to spend the summer season, creating transportation problems to the house of worship in the Yeldeğirmeni neighborhood on Saturdays and religious holidays. From time to time, some volunteers opened their homes for worship, which was not enough to solve the problem, and temporary solutions such as renting some houses and organizing Rosh Hashanah (New Year's Eve in the Hebrew calendar) and Kipur (Day of Atonement) prayers in these places with special permits obtained from 1949 onwards became insufficient after a while. The construction of a building dedicated to this purpose was imperative. However, the Haydarpaşa-Kadıköy community did not have the budget for such an undertaking. Moiz Behar Ebeoğlu gave half of his land in Caddebostan Taş Mektep Street to the committee at a price far below its normal value. The construction, which began according to a free of charge project prepared by Master Architect Engineer Albert Arditti, was completed in the summer of 1954.
