Van Herb Cheese
Van herb cheese is one of the Anatolian herb cube cheeses from the Van region. Van herb cheese is registered by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office and has a geographical indication.One of the cheese storage methods that is still traditional in Van is to leave it in jars and bury it in the ground. Cheese cubes with calcified and sedimented cheese inside were found in the Hoşap Castle excavations from 200-250 years ago.Van cheese, also known as Herb Van cheese, is pressed into clay jars with cacık (wild herbs) in the summer months and buried in the ground. It is taken out and consumed in the winter months.
